Worm and wheel transmission

Plastic worm gears operate with substantial sliding contact. Ratio, center distance, worm lead, material pair, speed and lubrication strategy should be reviewed as one tribological system.

Worm drives can trade speed for ratio in a compact right-angle layout, but the sliding action can generate more heat than a comparable rolling gear mesh. The housing should provide stable center distance and any lubrication method should be compatible with both the worm and the selected plastic.

How to read the product image

The main image is a representative technical redraw of a worm-and-wheel arrangement. It communicates the perpendicular-shaft topology and general meshing relationship, but it is not a production tooth-form definition. Final worm starts, lead or axial pitch, wheel tooth count, center distance, pressure system, hand, bore, face width, material, backlash and conjugate geometry must come from the released drawing and mating-pair calculation.
